Last Weeks Picks Results

By Michael Reeves

Below you will see our current picks standings the first number is the overall record through two weeks the second is our record last week...

Week Two Picks Standings

1. J. Ray Dockter 15-4 (8-2)

2. Brady Raggio 14-5 (7-3)

3. Michael Reeves 13-6 (7-3)

4. Lynn Ault 10-9 (6-4)

Now for my thoughts on last weeks picks...

J. Ray Dockter: Best pick of the week is easily when he predicted Shadow Ridge to beat Spanish Springs by an 8 point margin and a final score of 28-20 if this sounds familiar or rings a bell it's because it was exactly what happened. He doesn't need the ego boost at all but I've got to give the guy his kudos good job Doc. His worst pick for the week though should count as two losses (if you ask me). He predicted the Hug Hawks would beat El Capitan after the rest of the crew opposed his pick. Needless to say when a team loses 52-0 and you pick them it's not a good look on you. Though for all the griping and grief I give him I probably am just envious of his best pick record at 15-4 through two weeks.

Brady Raggio: He is slightly behind J. Ray Dockter at 14-5, only looking to advance to 1st place in the coming weeks. Brady's worst pick of the week is probably when he believed in Spring Creek over Carson. While his best pick of the week is probably believing in Elko over the Douglas Tigers though with no score it makes it difficult to determine how much or little belief he has in any particular team.

Lynn Ault: Lynn, Lynn, Lynn I don't know what is happening as he had such a great year of predictions last year but this year is fighting to remain above .500 (who does he think he is the San Francisco Giants). Lynn's worst pick was his bias showing again with the Damonte Ranch Mustangs. Believing they would beat Truckee was an interesting take as the Wolverines 23 game win streak is starting to catch people's attention. His best take or pick was nearly picking the Reno-Palo Verde score to a tee where he predicted a 31-21 win for Reno when in reality it was 32-18 which isn't too shabby if I don't say so myself.

For me: My picks are like my golf game if I could pick just one or two more games correctly, I would feel so much better. Below I am going to give you a few bullet points from last week games and my overall perspective on Northern Nevada Athletics...

  • I am SO STUPID for thinking Bishop Manogue would lose to St. Mary's. That incredible victory will have to be short lived as the Miners have an elite slate of games on deck.

  • The Carson Senators are interesting like I thought last week, but now I am hopeful they will be competing for the 2nd spot in 5A-D3 at the end of the year.

  • I know it is a very tiny sample size but has Reno found the offense they have been looking for for the past decade?

  • Another dumb pick was thinking Del Oro would be a little too much for Reed. My heart said Reed but my head said Del Oro I guess I should listen to my heart every now and again.

  • Speaking of heart I still believe the Tigers have ton of it and will not end the year with the worst record in the 5A-D2 like many people told me they would.

  • The Grizz are the cream of the crop in 5A-D3 don't be shocked when they are promoted to D2 next year.

  • I talked about variance in wins to begin seasons the Cougars are showing this will be one of the slower starts this season but it's not how you start it's how you finish especially when league play is at the end of the year.

  • Damonte Ranch... will start 0-3 and I am starting to feel bad for the Mustangs fans they want to replicate the Shawn Dupris era but should be hoping to replicate the Tony Amantia era first.

  • Hug, Wooster, North Valleys... I want you to be good but if 5A-D3 had relegation would Truckee be promoted and you three compete to not be relegated... while a harsh statement I think a fair one to ask.

  • PROGRAMMING NOTE: I forgot to have us pick McQueen and Union Mine where the Lancers lost 29-20... My bad. This week I have been keen on making sure every 5A-D2/D3 team is on our prediction board.
